As one of the successful established social companies of SINA, Refugee Global Talent hosts an annual two-day arts festival which is called “International Refugee Arts Festival”.
The event takes place at the Nakivale Refugee Settlement and features music, dance, poetry, modelling, drama, and more. The festival strives to empower young individuals to remind them of their unique potential and assist them in their development with the ultimate goal to prepare them for a life beyond the camp.
Young refugees have the possibility to express their emotions and display their skills, passions, and talents in an open and safe environment without discrimination. The festival itself promotes cultural exchange between locals and refugees with different cultural backgrounds.
As living out art results in positive emotions, it serves as bridge-builders as they are universal regardless of culture, religion, gender, origin, and skin color.
The International Refugee Arts Festival 2021 takes place in November 2021 in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda. Again, organized by the team of RGT with new supporters from all over the world.
With the new motto < NYUMBANI >, the Swahili word for < HOME > we expect more than 100 artists and 3,000 visitors.
For the second edition of the festival, auditions are being held in advance, in six different refugee camps in Uganda. The winners from those auditions are going to be invited to the big festival in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.
Young refugees will again have the chance to relief their emotions and regain lost smiles on their faces through intense arts performances. The International Arts Festival 2021 enhances the solidarity amongst different communities and creates a sense of belonging for young people who had to leave their home countries and try to find a new home apart from home.
Great potential will be developed, unleashed, and supported through the International Refugee Arts Festival 2021.
We thrive to build bright futures and new homes through talent development for the winners and through the provision of an online platform for all participating artists.
The first edition of International Refugee Arts Festival in December 2019 at Nakivale Refugee Settlement was a real success. It featured 56 artists from two different refugee camps. And with their motto “SAY NO TO XENOPHOBIA” they attracted over 2,000 visitors. A jury selected three winners among the artists who are supported to take part in opportunities outside of the refugee settlement, for example workshops related to their talent.
